How can I look after my mental health during the school holidays?
Whilst summer holidays are about relaxing and having a break from studies or work, it’s important to look after your mental health over this time.
Here are Dr Nihara Krause’s MBE top tips on how to promote positive mental health during the summer break
Maintain a relaxed, but regular schedule over the summer. This might mean making sure you go to bed at a reasonable time and get up in the morning rather than a very late night and getting up in the afternoon.
Whilst exercising in hot weather can be uncomfortable, find a regular activity you can enjoy and stay fit.
Eat regularly and well and make sure you stay hydrated.
It can be hard not seeing friends over the summer break. Try and catch up with them as regularly as possible online and set some quality face to face time with family and friends.
Managing online activity can be challenging over the summer. Try and stick to self-set limits and take social media breaks.
The summer is a good time to keep active by doing something you don’t usually do. This might mean working or volunteering or learning a new hobby or skill.
Plan for when the summer is over by keeping up on some of the topics you learn, reading and getting up to speed in areas that might be helpful to you for when you get back to school or college.
