Why design your own mental health support when our clinicians have already done it for you?
We’ve made it easy by creating our NHS-approved library of mental health apps, placing a digital psychologist directly into your hands
Benefit from innovative, evidence-based technology that is trusted by millions of young people, educators and clinicians worldwide
We then customise it to you for maximum impact and potential cost savings
Improved Mental Health
by providing trusted, effective and evidence-based resources for anxiety, depression, self-harm and eating disorders
Embedded analytics show our apps are 85% effective at symptom management
Complete Coverage
by providing access to a digital psychologist available via a smartphone 24/7
Strengthen your organisation’s mental, emotional and physical health by extending and consolidating support
Cost Savings
by preventing mental health difficulties from escalating and supporting ongoing wellbeing
Use as an adjunct to treatment, strengthen skills through practice and use as a stand-alone tool
Our apps are not a replacement to treatment. Please seek assessment from a mental health professional in an emergency or for recommendation. Cost savings cannot be guaranteed.
We’ve Already Done The Hard Part
We have created 5 award-winning, evidence-based apps that bring hard-to-access psychological therapies to each and every person that uses them.
Built in collaboration with users themselves, we’ve spent the last 12 years refining products that really work and are trusted by millions of people all over the world.
Your Enhanced Version
Personalised Branding
Customise the look of your app to ensure it’s immediately a recognisable and trusted resource
Insert your branding, a local landmark, or just your logo
We know from existing clients that this increases uptake and thereby usage for maximum impact
Custom Signposts
Integrate customised information including your specialised, tailored resources and signposts to ensure relevant and appropriate help is accessed
This can include your own special initiatives, team details, or emergency contacts
Data Insights
Gain anonymous insights into the true mental health picture, including demographic data and usage insights to provide timely and targeted support
Valuable data insights can also provide identification of trends in wellbeing to enable prevention as well as the provision of the most apt support

Case Study 1
Michelle Kane, Health Improvement Principal Young People’s Resilience, Leeds City Council
The Calm Harm app is seen as a valuable resource in Leeds for managing self-harm.
stem4’s expertise in relation to the redesign of the Calm Harm app to reflect the Leeds MindMate branding and capture Leeds data, as well as the ongoing collaboration, enables us to offer reputable local resources for our young people.
Leeds young people provided positive feedback on the app at a recent mental health event, which is supported by the efficacy data. Leeds continues to widely promote the app.
Leeds City Council highlighted the reduction of self-harm as a key priority area in their Suicide Prevention Strategy
They recognised the broad yet profound impact that digital resources can have and, rather than starting from scratch, they identified stem4’s Calm Harm app as a reputable, effective tool which they could personalise
To ensure that the app was trusted and therefore used by Leeds residents, they imprinted their existing branding onto the app and marketed it via their usual channels
The Council inserted its own signposting resources to enable local residents to better understand what support is available to them in their area, leading to better and faster mental health outcomes
stem4 sends Leeds City Council regular, anonymised data on demographics and user usage to help better understand the city’s mental health and demonstrate effectiveness in the area
The Council analyses this data, with one insight identifying a cluster of self-harm activity in particular postcodes which allowed them to divert on-the-ground services to where they were most needed

Good Thinking is a free, digital NHS service, supporting Londoners in looking after their mental health and wellbeing in a way that works for them
As part of their service, Good Thinking works with partners to identify the ‘best in class’ mobile health apps, and offers them to Londoners for free
Good Thinking’s research concluded that young people not only wanted help on supporting themselves, but on how to support a friend with mental health difficulties
Enter stem4’s apps:
- Combined Minds app (designed to help friends and family support a young person with their mental health)
- Clear Fear app (designed to help young people manage their anxiety)
- Move Mood app (designed to help young people manage low mood and depression)
stem4 adapted Clear Fear and Combined Minds to signpost young Londoners directly to Good Thinking resources, whilst also benefiting from localised information, stem4’s central app updates, clinical safety, security and marketing services
In addition, Good Thinking also receives quarterly information impact updates on all three apps from the stem4 digital team
Not only do all Londoners now have a suite of clinically-informed mental health apps which they can trust and that cost pence per year per user, but Good Thinking is able to continuously analyse the usage and effectiveness of each app and their wider mental health services across the capital
