Large charities play a vital role, but they also receive most of the donations. Just 1.3% of UK charities receive over 72% of all charitable income (Charity Commission, 2023). That leaves thousands of smaller charities, like stem4, underfunded despite delivering critical frontline support.

At stem4, we’re proud to be a small charity with a big impact. Every pound you donate goes directly to providing young people with evidence-based mental health apps for anxiety, self-harm, depression, and eating disorders. These tools are used by young people in crisis, often with no other help available.

I love this app so much! It helps me with anxiety and never fails to make me feel better, this app has been a lifesaver and I am thankful to have found it! My gratitude to whoever made this.

Clear Fear App User - Young Person App Review

There is a massive need for schools to support students struggling with anxiety every day, but our teachers often struggle with time, resources and even the expertise to provide the help every student needs. Having a clinically validated resource like Clear Fear makes a real difference.

Amanda Collyer, Student Support and Wellbeing Ambassador, Howard of Effingham School

As a GP partner on the frontlines of healthcare, I’ve witnessed firsthand the dramatic rise in mental health disorders amongst young people. stem4’s apps stand out as clinically-validated tools that bring effective therapies to young people, providing immediate support which we simply cannot offer.

Dr Amit Seyan, NHS GP

This is a phenomenal app. Developers take a bow and thank you for creating such a well thought out app. There is literally so many activity ideas to help distract those with urges. I’m a cbt therapist and recommend this app to my clients. So thank you for helping me help others.

Why We Need Your Support

Right now, too many young people are struggling alone with their mental health.

In just one year, 300,000 young people turned to our mental health apps—including 121,000 in the UK—for support with anxiety, depression, self-harm and eating disorders.

1 in 5 children and young people in England have a probable mental health disorder.

In 2022–23, over 700,000 children had active referrals to NHS mental health services—yet many faced long waits or received no support at all.

Our five apps have now been downloaded more than 5 million times worldwide, offering discreet, immediate, evidence-based help—anytime, anywhere.

With your help during the Big Give (23–30 June), we can continue providing vital mental health support and reach even more young people—before they reach crisis point.

Every donation will be doubled, meaning your impact goes twice as far. We’re aiming to raise £20,000, and thanks to match funding from the Big Give, we only need £10,000 in public donations to get there. Click here to support stem4.
