As the world marks World Mental Health Day 2025, stem4 is shining a spotlight on the mental health challenges facing young people across the UK and the urgent need for accessible, effective support.

At stem4, we know that small, everyday actions can create lasting change. From classrooms to communities, from one-on-one conversations to peer-led campaigns, young people are taking charge of their wellbeing and stem4 is here to make sure they have the tools to do it.

Digital Tools That Make a Real Difference

Our award-winning apps (Calm Harm, Move Mood, Clear Fear, Combined Minds, and Worth Warrior) empower young people to manage their own mental health and support their friends. Over the past year, these tools have reached more than 5 million downloads worldwide, helping young people take proactive steps toward positive mental health.

Behind every download is a story of courage and resilience. A teenager using Calm Harm to cope with overwhelming feelings. A student turning to Combined Minds to support a friend in distress. These individual actions are building a culture of empathy, understanding, and peer support in schools and online communities.

  • Activities in the apps are helpful 92% of the time

  • stem4 supports 40,000 active users every month

  • A £5 donation puts our apps in the hands of three young people

“This World Mental Health Day, we are reminded that young people’s voices must be at the centre of the conversation”

“Early help, digital innovation, and accessible support can transform lives. No young person should face mental health challenges alone. We call on schools, families, policymakers, and businesses to join us in building a future where mental health is understood, supported, and valued.”

Dr Nihara Krause, stem4 CEO and Founder

Supporting Mental Health in Schools

Schools are uniquely placed to nurture resilience and promote positive mental health. stem4’s Clear Fear for Schools programme embeds the award-winning Clear Fear app into everyday school life, equipping students to:

  • Understand anxiety

  • Identify triggers

  • Manage anxious thoughts and feelings

Using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques.

“Clear Fear bridges a critical gap in care and empowers young people with practical skills to manage anxiety when professional support isn’t immediately available”

Dr Amit Seyan, GP Partner, Robin Hood Medical Practice

“There is a massive need for schools to support students struggling with anxiety every day, but our teachers often lack time, resources, and expertise to reach every student. Having a clinically validated resource like Clear Fear, which students can access instantly, makes a real difference. We’re excited to start using it to provide immediate, evidence-based support when it’s needed most.”

Amanda Collyer, Student and Wellbeing Ambassador at Howard of Effingham School
