Self-Harm Awareness Day 2025:
Ride the Wave, Share Hope, Take Action

Self-Harm Awareness Day, founded by Harmless, is an opportunity to unite, raise awareness, and break the stigma surrounding self-harm.

Every year, thousands of young people struggle in silence with the overwhelming urge to self-harm. For many, Calm Harm is a vital lifeline, providing immediate support to those in treatment or facing long waits for mental health care.

Developed by stem4, Calm Harm empowers users to manage urges, build healthy coping strategies, and take control of their mental health.

Why Calm Harm?

At stem4, our mission is simple: to empower young people to take control of their mental health. One of the ways we do this is through the Calm Harm app, developed by Clinical Psychologist Dr. Nihara Krause MBE.

Here’s why Calm Harm makes a difference:

  • Immediate Help: The app uses Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) techniques to help users ‘Ride the Wave’ of overwhelming emotions and manage the urge to self-harm.
  • Accessible and Practical: It offers activities to self-soothe, find alternative coping strategies, and signposts additional support when needed.
  • Life-Saving Support: Acting as a ‘psychologist in your pocket,’ Calm Harm provides immediate, accessible mental health support for young people.

In 2024, Calm Harm helped over 200,000 young people worldwide. With your support, we can reach even more.

Amy’s Story: “This app saved my life many times.”

Amy struggled with self-harm for years until she discovered Calm Harm through a helpline.

“The activities helped me ride the wave of urges and find peace. I’m so grateful, it saved my life countless times.”

Luca’s Story: “I’m proud of my progress.”

For Luca, Calm Harm was more than a coping tool; it was a source of empowerment.

“I love tracking my journey. This app isn’t just about stopping self-harm, it’s about building a better relationship with myself.”

Leila’s Story: “The activities are simple, but they work.”

Leila found Calm Harm after struggling to manage her emotions.

“The breathing exercises and distraction techniques gave me space to let the wave pass. I’m now six weeks clean and feeling stronger every day.”
