Eating disorders

For teenagers

  • Are you feeling tired, avoiding social events and having difficulty concentrating?
  • Are you finding it harder to do all the things you usually do?
  • Are you feeling alone, helpless and trapped?
  • Are you having difficulties around food or self-image?

None of our bodies are made the same and this can sometimes be upsetting. There may be times that you try to do something to improve your body and make yourself feel better. Sometimes this doesn’t work out, or you may take things a little too far which harms you instead. This could leave you feeling completely overwhelmed.

These overwhelming feelings can sometimes be difficult to deal with alone but you don’t have to go through this alone. You’re one of many who are going through the same emotions. There are people who know and understand these emotional changes and would like to help you. There may be family and friends who would be happy to help because they care for you. There are places you could go to for help.

You may want to start with speaking to a teacher or the nurse at school. Small, manageable steps are the best way forward.
