The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge December 2021
In 2020 stem4 was approached by Tim Harris and Simon Calver, two ordinary chaps from the world of business. Not rowers but great friends, they have chosen to undertake this amazing challenge. Both have had their lives touched by mental ill health, and they are determined to support the promotion of positive mental health to enable young people to achieve happy, healthy and fulfilling futures. They have generously self-funded this challenge to ensure that 100% of donations and sponsorship are directed to the excellent work stem4 carries out both in its education and conferencing reach and through its award-winning suite of digital tools.
Tim and Simon together make up Team MINDCRAFT. They began the TWAC in December 2021, rowing 3,000 nautical miles (equivalent of 3,452 land miles) in gruelling conditions. They had to muster every ounce of mental resilience to accompany the physical endurance of the race. Confined to a small space in their Rannoch25, enduring a two hour on/off pattern of row/sleep and facing waves of up to 40ft; this was no ordinary challenge.
After 51 days, 14 hours, and 56 minutes on the water, Team MINDCRAFT completed their incredible challenge on 2nd February 2022, arriving in Antigua. What an amazing achievement!

stem4OAR Challenge
The stem4OAR Challenge was a land-based rowing challenge that aimed to replicate the distance that Tim and Simon undertook in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, to encourage participation to promote resilience and foster positive mental health.
The stem4OAR Challenge took place from December 2021 and into summer 2022 to complete the 3,000 nautical miles (or 3,452 land miles).
This event was for schools, corporates, gyms, sports clubs, community groups; in fact anywhere and anyone of all ages that had access to a static rowing machine.
Thank you to all who took part!
