In an attempt to raise a gigantic £10,000 towards fostering positive teenage mental health, a team of 40 participants took on the 2020 GiG Malta Marathon on 1st March in aid of stem4. The team of all ages competed across the full marathon, half marathon and half walkathon races, covering a total of over 500 miles, all with the goal of improving teenage mental health.
Training through the wind, rain and cold conditions over Winter, the stem4 team kept motivated through the knowledge that the discomfort they felt was nothing compared to what some young people needlessly experience with their mental health on an every-day basis. The fantastic fundraising event was generously sponsored by long term stem4 supporters Diespeker & co, with stem4 partners Terra Ferma and HMA also taking part. Each runner undertook their own personal fundraising endeavours, reaching a fantastic total of over £10,000.
Dr Nihara Krause, CEO and Founder of stem4 commented ‘The persistence and determination required to train and participate in a marathon or half marathon as shown by our wonderful team of participants is similar to the resilience the young people we work with learn to develop to adapt to the challenges they face in life. stem4 are very grateful to Diespeker & Co for their continuous support in what will be their second sponsored Malta marathon.’
stem4 would like to thank teams from partners Terra Ferma and HMA for their fantastic efforts. Thanks also to support from Hotel Chocolat Southside Wandsworth, Decathlon Southside Wandsworth, l‘Occitane Wandsworth and Anglo, Wimbledon.
