stem4 is a charity that promotes positive mental health in teenagers and those who support them including their families and carers, education professionals, and health professionals. Each year, stem4 runs Youth Mental Health Day (YMHD), a campaign to encourage understanding and discussion of mental health in young people. This year, YMHD will take place on 19 September.

Get ready to kick off your new academic year with a focus on young people’s mental health and student wellbeing. Use this year’s YMHD theme, #BeBrave, to help your students find the courage and confidence they need to achieve their goals and ambitions, and to be the best version of themselves they can be.

What is a YMHD 2023 Ambassador School?

This year, stem4 wishes to provide a select number of secondary schools and colleges with the opportunity to become a YMHD 2023 Ambassador School. Not only will these schools and colleges demonstrate their dedication to promoting positive mental health within their communities, they will also be able to start meaningful conversations with students about their mental wellbeing, and what it may mean for them to #BeBrave.

What does being a YMHD Ambassador School involve?

  • Using the official YMHD 2023 resources.

Our school/college guides will help start a positive discussion amongst students about mental health within your community.

  • Holding a Youth Mental Health Day #BeBrave assembly.

Our Assembly Pack, containing presentation slides and a script, will make it easy for teachers and students to present on the day (19 September).

  • Taking part in our #BeBrave Wall activity.

This September, stem4 will be running a #BeBrave Wall event in central Wimbledon. We will be inviting members of the public to write how they will #BeBrave on Youth Mental Health Day directly onto our #BeBrave wall. Ambassador Schools will recreate this activity in their own school/college, with the help of our YMHD Schools Activity Pack and other printed resources.

  • Getting involved with other YMHD activities!

Ambassador schools will be encouraged to host other #BeBrave activities and events on 19 September, with the help of our comprehensive guides and resources.

  • Share your ideas, plans, and progress with the stem4 YMHD Team.

YMHD Ambassador Schools will commit to sharing videos and pictures of how they participated in YMHD 2023. The stem4 Team will be able to highlight them as a passionate supporter of positive youth mental health.

  • Make Youth Mental Health Day your own!

If you wish to put on your own #BeBrave activity, challenge, or fundraising event for stem4 on Youth Mental Health Day, the stem4 Team would love to help by providing assistance or further resources. Please email fundraising@stem4.org.uk for fundraising support or to discuss any ideas.

The first 25 schools to sign up by Friday 5 May will automatically become YMHD Ambassador Schools.

These schools will receive an Ambassador Schools Pack including printed resources, YMHD posters and stickers, and a pack of stem4 Calm Cards. Ambassador schools will also receive support from the stem4 Team, ensuring meaningful engagement with our resources on the day.

We encourage you to have a look at our dedicated YMHD webpage to find out more about the day and theme.

We look forward to supporting you in becoming a #BeBrave Ambassador School this Youth Mental Health Day on 19 September.
